Blessed Sacrament Parish, Burton at 6340 Roberta Street, Burton, MI 48509-2438 US - Our Needs And Plans

Our Needs And Plans

OUR NEEDS AND PLANS Since the beginning of our parish last summer, we have made plans for the day when we could have our own parish buildings. The use of Bentley School for Sunday Masses is by necessity a temporary arrangement and the small Chapel we use for daily Mass is inadequate to our needs. Therefore, a Church in which we can celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and which will be the permanent home of Christ in our midst is a necessity. We must also provide a school for our children where they can obtain not only a basic education, but an education permeated with the teachings of Christ. This is a necessity to the Salvation of their souls that we dare not deny them. True, many of our children are being provided for by other parishes, but we cannot expect them to continue to do this indefinitely and we must also provide for those children not now able to attend a Catholic School. Our plans call for the construction of a single unit building which will contain a temporary church searing 650, four classrooms, principal's office, hygiene room, and an all purpose room that will serve as a parish hall. The structure will be of fireproof masonry and designed to receive future expansions of the facilities consistent with parish growth. The estimated cost of construction is $175,000 and our present debt plus the cost of acquiring the site for the parish comes to another $34,000. The 20-acre parish site is bordered by Vassar Road on the East, Lapeer Road on the North and Transue Road on the West. Sound business practice dictates that we must raise as much of our overall need as possible before proceeding with construction. After much thought and deliberation, it has been decided that the most practical way to meet our parish needs is through a concerted drive for funds in which everyone in the parish will be asked to carry their share of the burden. This campaign, properly organized and conducted in a Catholic manner, will permit us to proceed with building plans in the near future and yet keep on sound financial footing. The exact starting date will depend upon the degree of our success in the Campaign. The campaign will also save us a lot of money that would otherwise be spent on interest payments and will distribute the burden equally and not cause undue hardship on anyone in the parish. Therefore, with the blessing and approval of His Excellency, Joseph H. Albers, D.D., we have initiated the Blessed Sacrament Building Fund Campaign.
